Around this time last year I was preparing to come to Korea and teach English and start a new and exciting chapter in my life. I didn't have to think whether or not I wanted to come here and it was of those things that happened so fast that I still can't believe that I am actually in Korea. Wow! I can not believe how fast the year has gone. It didn't hit me that I would be going home in less than 7 weeks (47 days or so) until I had to confirm the info on my plane ticket that my school bought for my return trip home to America today. This journey has been absolutely amazing and I would encourage those who are thinking about teaching abroad to consider it because it is a great way to see another part of the world, meet new people, and learn about who you are and what direction your life is headed. Just think of it as a paid vacation for 1 year. It is so peaceful here and I have experienced little to no stress because I do not have to deal with the same things I have to deal with in America, so it is definitely refreshing to know that there is so much more to life, but I have to seek those opportunities out and get them while they are available. There are so many great things to see in this world, if you have the opportunity seize it and love every minute of it!

Korean Students Celebrate Obama (오 바 마) Victory!
When I walked into my English class today my students started chanting, "OBAMA, OBAMA". They wanted to congratulate Obama, so they made signs and said a few words about how they felt. Here are some of my students from one of my English classes cheering for Obama!

Time For a Check Up?
Time For a Check Up?
Alan Riley
Can you believe it is already September? This year is going by in a blur! It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in 2008, and now there are just four months left in the year. Our awareness of the passing of time provides us with an strong incentive to look back and evaluate where we are. Have I reached my personal, professional and spiritual goals for the year? Where am I in my development in those areas? What do I need to do differently to see more progress in these areas between now and the end of the year?
Sponsor AdA few weeks ago I had my annual medical checkup. It's not a pleasant experience, especially for someone who just plain doesn't like going to the doctor. But I have seen the sometimes tragic results of NOT catching a medical problem early, so I choose to subject myself to the inconvenience and the discomfort of a medical examination because it is ultimately very important to my health.
Likewise, it is often not a pleasant experience to go through a spiritual checkup, either. None of us likes to take a critical look at ourselves, much less to ask trusted friends or accountability partners to tell us what they see. But I have seen far too many times the tragic results of NOT catching a spiritual problem early, so I choose to subject myself to the inconvenience and the discomfort of a "spiritual examination" because it is ultimately very important to my spiritual health and to my effectiveness as a leader.
In both of Paul's letters to the church at Corinth - a church that had its share of problems and challenges - he stresses the need for an honest self examination. In 1 Corinthians 11:28, the Apostle says that we should carefully examine our lives before we partake of the Lord's supper to be sure that we do not sin against the body and the blood of Christ and bring condemnation upon ourselves. Then in 2 Corinthians 13:5, Paul says: "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test? And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test." (NIV)
Have you had a spiritual check up lately?

More of You
by Natarsha N. Wright1 year ago I had the opportunity to go on a missions trip with my church. It was a life changing experience for me and helped me to put my life into perspective. The Mustard Seed home is a home that houses young children with HIV/AIDS. We later found out that most of the children we visited with and took school supplies to are there waiting to die. They have no outside family and the only visitors they have are missionaries. When we visited with the children they had the presence of God and they showed us adults that life is what you make it. While the children laughed, we cried. They told us that there was no reason to cry because they have accepted God's will for there life.
After that day I had to change my mindset on life and stop complaining about what I didn't have or what I wanted and start being grateful for the things that the Lord has blessed me with and know that God will not put more on us than we can bear. Every time I start to think about complaining about what I have or don't have I think about how grateful I am to have life because it could have easily been me with no clothes, no shoes, or no food to eat. Oh, wait a minute that was me at one point in my life with no clothes, no shoes, or no food to eat, so why is it when I have those things I feel a need to want and ask for more when has already done exceedingly, abundantly, above anything that I can ask for in this life.
"...Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
POINT TO PONDER: Why is it that we are never grateful for what God has done in our lives or how about what he has not done? What I mean is he may not have done something you wanted because it is not in your best interest. What is good for someone else may not be good for you or better yet what you think is good for you may not be what God think is good for you.
The very thing that you are trying to hold on to or catch is that same thing that God is trying to tell you to let go? Wait on God's timing and everything will fall into place.
Learn how to, LET GO & LET GOD! and seek MORE OF HIM!

All things are possible
Today, when I received my devotional from Joel Osteen it re-ignited a fire in me:
Today's Scripture
"What is impossible with men is possible with God" (Luke 18:27).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
Is there a situation in your life today that seems impossible? As a child of the Most High God, you are not limited by what you see. You are not limited by your circumstances, the economy, or what others say because with God all things are possible! It doesn't matter how it may look in the natural, when you see things through your eyes of faith, you will see new possibilities. You will see the answer that is on its way!
It all starts by having a grateful attitude: an attitude of faith and expectancy. When you declare the promises of God over your life and meditate on His Word, it activates faith in your heart. Faith draws the good things of God into your life. When you wake up every morning, declare that with God all things are possible. Declare that you are blessed and you cannot be cursed. Declare that you are above only and not beneath. Expect God's favor and blessing in your life every day. As you do, you will see Him move on your behalf, and you'll see new levels of possibility in every area of your life!
A Prayer for Today
Father in heaven, thank You for making a way where there seems to be no way. I choose an attitude of faith and expectancy today. Work in my heart and life that I may be a living testimony of Your goodness to those around me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

I "Heart" Me...
6 months ago, I did the unthinkable...I gave up my apartment, my job, my car, my life, everything that I was comfortable with and packed up my bags and moved overseas. I was at a turning point in my life and to one it may seem like I was running way from things, but in fact I was starting a new chapter in my life...The chapter where I became liberated and motivated to let go of the past and look towards the future! I can now say that I have traveled to Asia and lived in South Korea for 1 year and pretty soon I will be able to say, I went to Beijing, China and climbed 1 of the 7 world wonders, The Great Wall of China and toured the Forbidden City...How cool is that? And I will have the pictures to prove it! So, no I don't look at it as running away, but more like running towards all the things God has promised me, but I was close to because I had let life's distractions get in the way, but now I am back better than ever and focused on what God is getting ready to do in my life.
It is amazing what can happen in 1 year. I never imagined or even thought for that matter that I would be here in South Korea, watching the sunrise over the mountains, and writing this blog post at 5:36am on June 26, 2008. All of that because I was obedient to the voice of God when he told me to let it all go and come here to Korea because he has everything under control. Don't worry about tomorrow for tomorrow worries about itself. God has continued to show me everyday that his word does not lie and he has things in store for me far more than my wildest imagination. He has plans for me to prosper and to be successful in life, love, and in my faith. He says, that he will never leave me nor forsake me and I know this to be true because he has never left me not matter what I have done nor has he forsaken me...and for that I am eternally grateful to God for blessing me with this opportunity to be overseas and share with others his goodness and mercy.
So, I say all of that to say, I "Heart" Me, because I am developing into a strong independent woman who knows who she is in Christ! And I am committed to serving God because I am not worthy of the life that I am being blessed with...To God be the Glory! I "Heart" Me for being fearless, loving, kind, patient, obedient, and faithful in him...I "Heart" Me because I am learning from past and present mistakes and using those mistakes and failures as stepping stones to get to the next phase of my life...I "Heart" Me because I am not afraid anymore of taking chances and making mistakes. I am living, loving, learning, and enjoying life's experiences. I "Heart" Me because I did not let me fear conquer me. Even though I didn't want to leave my family and friends I had to...for me! I had to experience and see what the world was like. I had to stop living for others and start living for myself. I "Heart" Me because now I am living for me!
Until Next Time...(know that I "Heart" You for believing in me and never giving up on me, even when I gave up on myself)

Reflection
Living in a foreign country sometimes can be discouraging. You start to think about all the reasons why you are there and what was I really think coming all the way here? You go through this period of self doubt and then you start to wonder what the next move in your life will be because honestly you can not go back to living the life you lived before you came to this far away place. So when I feel like that I just pray and talk to God, because after all he was the one who told me to come here in the first place even though at the time I didn't understand why? During this self reflection God said 2 things to me, (1) Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) and (2) For the vision is yet for an appointed time...though it tarry, wait for it (Habakkuk 2:3). As bad as I want to some things in my life I have to practice patience and obedience, because I do not want to move ahead of what God has for me, sometimes we let our own selves get in the way and it messes everything up. Here is one of my favorite devotionals from Joel Osteen:
Your Time is Coming
Today's Scripture
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time…though it tarry, wait for it” (Habakkuk 2:3 KJV).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
Your time is coming! The dreams and desires, the things you want to accomplish, the situations you want to see changed will happen. Just because it has taken a long time, or because you’ve tried and failed, don’t give up on those dreams. Don’t be complacent about pursuing what God has placed in your heart. I encourage you today — get your fire back! It may be taking a long time, but God is a faithful God. No matter how long it’s been, no matter how impossible it looks, if you’ll stay in faith, your time is coming. Every dream that’s in your heart, every promise that has taken root, God not only put it there, but He has every intention of bringing it to pass. Start declaring today, “My time is coming… God is working behind the scenes on my behalf… I will fulfill my destiny… I will fulfill the plan God has for my life!” As you declare and expect and wait for the appointed time, your faith will grow. Your hope will grow. And you’ll step into the destiny God has in store for you!

A Virtuous Woman
A Special Mother's Day Message: "A Virtuous Woman"
Proverbs 31:10-31 (The Message)
A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.
Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.
She shops around for the best yarns and cottons, and enjoys knitting and sewing.
She's like a trading ship that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises.
She's up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.
She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she's put aside, plants a garden.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She's skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.
She's quick to assist anyone in need, reaches out to help the poor.
She doesn't worry about her family when it snows; their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear. She makes her own clothing, and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
She designs gowns and sells them, brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.
When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise:
"Many women have done wonderful things, but you've outclassed them all!"
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!

Sacrificial Offering

As I was walking out of the subway station I saw this man with his head down and I thought he was sleeping, immediately took out all the money I had in my pocket and gave it to him, it was not much, but it was all that I had. He then looked up and said to me, "God Bless You" and I looked back and said, "God bless You, as well".

God's Blessing
Today, my good friend Michelle had some of us from the church to come pray over her new school. 1 week ago she opened the doors to her new school, which is bigger than the previous one she had. She was sharing with us how 1 year ago she had tried to expand her school, however when she went to the bank to apply for a loan they denied her request. Nothing had changed in her financial situation within that one year, but she was believing in God for her breakthrough, so with nothing more than that mustard seed of faith, she went back to that same bank and she was APPROVED for the loan she needed to expand her school! To God be the Glory! Notice how her financial situation did not change, but her FAITH and TRUST in GOD did which gave God the room he needed to do what he said he would do, if she would just put her faith and trust in him and him alone. See God can do what man can't do! If you don't get anything else from this just know that God's delay is not a denial. And, know that if he closes that door another one will open that was better than the one before...
Lean not onto your own understanding, somethings are not meant for you to figure out!
Pastor Bob sharing a scripture (Proverbs 3)
The Missions Ministry celebrating Michelle's success! Congratulations!!
Celebration lunch...
Got Beef? See how they are cutting it up with scissors? They don't use knives here in Korea.
It is Korean tradition to eat family style and with a lot of side dishes.
More side dishes...Today, I think we had about 10-12 side dishes. Oh, did I mention that the side dishes are never ending? As soon as you think you are done they keep topping your dish off...
Don't give up on your dreams! It will come in God's appointed time.

He Lives...Resurrection Sunday
Easter is more than just going to church once a year, buying a new outfit, dying easter eggs, easter egg hunts, and bunny shaped chocolates.
Christ died on the cross to forgive our sins, and rose from the dead to give us eternal life.
God saved us from our sins and has already forgiven us for all of our sins. Our sin points out our need to be forgiven and cleansed. Although we don't deserve it, God, in his kindness, reached out to love and forgive us. He provides the way for us to be saved. Christ's death paid the penalty for our sin. Now, it is time for you save yourself from your sin! No matter how small or big the sin, a sin is still a sin, but he forgives us and loves us no matter what.
Plan of Salvation: Romans 10:9
To be forgiven of our sin, we must believe and confess that Jesus is Lord. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ. If you are not saved, want to be born again, in a back slidden condition, or you have not given your life to Christ it is not to late to have come to him and ask for forgiveness. God declares in Roman 10:9, that if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord, " and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. And yes, it is just that simple! Commit your life to God and see him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).
You have tried everything else why not try GOD? Get to know God for yourself!
Prayer for today:
“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”
He will never leave you nor forsake you.

He Died and then...
Today is Good Friday. The day that Jesus died for all of our sins. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead, which we celebrate as Easter. Everyone has sinned against God and Jesus paid our debts when he died on Calvary.
It is written: John 3:16-21
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
Romans 3:22-24 "The righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented himself as a living sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood."
God's love is not self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in. Here God sets the pattern of true love, the basis for all love relationship-when you love someone, you are willing to give to the point of self-sacrifice. God paid with the life of his Son, the highest price he could pay. Jesus accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that he had bought for us. In internal life there is no death, sickness, enemy, evil, or sin. When we don't know Christ we make choices as though this life is all we have. In reality, this life is just the introduction to eternity. Receive this new life by faith and begin to evaluate all that happens from an eternal perspective. To "believe" is to put your trust and confidence in him that he alone can save us. It is to put Christ in charge of our present plans and eternal destiny. Believing is both trusting his words as reliable, and relying on him for the power to change. If you have never trusted Christ, let this promise of everlasting life be yours and believe.
God will give you hope for tomorrow, joy for your sorrow, and strength for everything you go through. -Martha Munizzi

Dare to Dream
(Photos by: Flip Schulke)
MLK said this statement ON HIS OWN FUTURE (April 3, 1968): "We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. I won't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And he's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the Promised Land. So I'm happy tonight. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. " (Time.com)
It is never too late to fight for your dream! Do you have a dream that you want to fulfill? So why aren't you pursuing it? Look forward and not backward. If you are always looking back you will never see what is in front of you.

What Are You Waiting For?
I am a huge Joel Osteen fan. He is an amazing speaker and he is just a real down to earth person. He has joy and peace that exudes him. I signed up some months to receive his daily devotionals "Today's Word with Joel and Victoria" when I was going through some test and trials. His word is always on time and no matter what I am going through I can find truth, healing, and encouragement in his word to get me through. During my prayer time over the past few months God has been revealing some things to me, but specifically he has been dealing with me in regards to some questions I have been asking about the direction of my life and while reading back through some of the devotionals last night I came across this:
Pursue Your Strengths (from December 3)
Today's Scripture “Do not neglect your gift…” (I Timothy 4:14).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
God has equipped each one of us with specific gifts and talents. It’s up to you to not only to identify those gifts, but to be disciplined to develop those gifts. You have to learn to stay in your strength zone. What are you naturally good at? What do you enjoy doing? Take the time to identify your strengths and weaknesses and as the scripture says, give yourself to your gifts. In other words, don’t spend all your time trying to improve your weaknesses. Don’t waste valuable days pursuing things that are outside your main gifting. Focus on your strengths. There is something that you’re good at naturally—something you can do that comes easy to you. Step out into your area of gifting. Are you good with people? Are you good with your hands? Do you have a great voice? Find ways to develop those gifts. Know that your gifts and talents are a part of your divine destiny. If you’ll be comfortable with who God made you to be, and thank Him for your unique gifting, you’ll not only enjoy your life more, but you’ll be ready to receive the abundant blessing God has in store for you!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for equipping me with everything I need to be successful in this life. I ask that You show me how to develop the gifts within me for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

No Matter What
We all fall from grace, but never from his presence and God is showing me no matter how many times I mess up that he will never leave me nor forsake me. Real talk, if it was not for him I do not know where I would be...as I matter of fact I know where I would be I would be dead, plain and simple. Everyone has there own testimony and we all have survived the storm to share our testimony with others to glorify and honor God. I am at the point in my life where I want to be happy and I want everything that God has for me because I know that there is more to life, but in order for me to get everything God promised me I have to be obedient and submit to his will. Everyone will not understand and it is not meant for them too as long as you know and God know that is all that matters.
Everyone is at different places in there walk with God, but when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired you will submit to God's ways. I have tried it my way and it was not what God wanted for me. Proverbs 3:5-7 says, "I lean on, trust in, and am confident in the Lord with all my heart and mind and do not rely on my own insight or understanding. In all my ways I know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He directs and makes straight and plain my paths. I am not wise in my own eyes, but I reverently fear and worship the Lord." So no matter how the situation looks in the present I do not lean to my own understanding because if it is in God's will it will come to pass. He always makes a way out of no way. He has done it for me countless times. You know we sometimes put ourselves in certain situations that we are not supposed to get involved with, but we ignore the signs that God will show us that that person, place, or thing that you are so determined to be with, go to, or do is not for us. It is not until we go through that mess and when we come out of it we say, "God if I would have just listened to you from the beginning I would not be in this mess". Sometimes what we are looking for is right in front of us.
When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for me..whew! Eyes have not seen and ears have not heard...
Until next time...

Self Validation
Be secure in who God made you to be. You do not need people to validate who you are or what you should do. Encourage yourself! Do not let one negative thing affect all of the other positive things that are going on in your life. You may not be where you want to be in life right now, but Thank God that you are not where you used to be. Your time is coming and you will be where you need and want to be in God's timing. Whatever you are waiting on and seeking God for it is on the way. Be patient and wait on God. He may not come when you want him, but he is always on time!
Do you have a gift/talent that you are not using and should be? What are you waiting for? God has already given you everything you need to fulfill the gifts he has given you to use for his glory. Open your eyes it is right in front of you all you have to do is go and get it!
Know who you are for yourself.
Until next time...
